1. What is Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy is a German system of medicine which aims to promote physical, emotional and mental health of an individual by reinforcing the body’s own natural healing capacity by stimulating the defense mechanism by specially prepared remedies proven on healthy human beings.
2. Why should I use homoeopathy?
Homoeopathic remedies are proven on healthy human beings and their effects on the human body is known.
It has no side effects. It is safe and gentle.
It works with the defense mechanism rather than against it thus restoring health instead of suppressing the defense mechanism.
It improves resistance to infection by strengthening the immune system.
Homoeopathy treats an individual as a whole taking into account the physical, emotional and mental states as well, thus maintaining an internal balance and harmony.
It is easy to take for all age groups especially for children.
3. How was Homoeopathy discovered?
The founder of homoeopathy is Dr.Samuel Hahnemann who was an 18th century German physician.
Homoeopathy is based on the law ‘LIKE CURES LIKE’. While investigating the anti-malarial effects of quinine he discovered it gave him just that type of fever.
This method of 'PROVING' substances to discover the range of symptoms they were capable of causing, enabled Hahnemann to find out what they could also cure.
4 . How are homoeopathic remedies prepared?
Homoeopathic remedies are non-toxic, safe, easy to take and given in minutest quantity. Most of the remedies are prepared from plants, herbs, and vegetables. Remedies are also prepared from minerals, animal products and metals. Remedies are prepared in licensed laboratories worldwide.
5. Who can use homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy can be used by anyone of any age for a wide variety of conditions as it is a completely safe, gentle and restorative natural alternative therapy.
6. Can homoeopathy be used along with conventional medicine?
Yes, as the chronic condition improves, the conventional medicine can be gradually reduced and finally stopped after the consultation with the doctor who has prescribed that medicine.
7. How fast homoeopathy can work?
It depends on the duration and complexity of the problem.
8. What is expected in homoeopathic consultation?
The first homoeopathic consultation in a chronic case usually takes about an hour. Since the homoeopathic treatment is an individualized treatment, the homoeopath tries to understand you as an individual.
You will be asked questions regarding your thermal sensitivity, your weather preference, your cravings and aversions for specific foods, your sleep pattern, your preferred position during sleep, any fears you have and if you have any anxiety and over what kind of things. Questions regarding punctuality, neatness, anger etc. and many more questions like this may be asked.
A follow up consultation for a chronic case takes about half an hour.
In an acute case, consultation usually takes about 15 to 20 mins.
9. What is meant by “Individualized treatment”?
No two individuals are same. Everybody has a different nature, habits and lifestyle so their remedies are also different.
If two persons catch a cold they may come up with different symptoms. The first person may feel cold, desire warm drinks but in sips, have burning watery discharge from the nose with repeated sneezing and feel restless and weak. The other person may feel hot, sweat profusely, have great thirst for cold drinks, have headache with nasal obstruction without much discharge from the nose.
They both will need different remedies as their symptoms are completely different. This is Individualisation.
10. Important information for the patient
Do not eat or drink for half an hour before or after taking the remedy.
Do not touch the remedies with your hands.
Do not keep the remedies in strong sunlight, near strong odors, perfumes, near electromagnetic radiations.
Avoid use of coffee as it can antidote the remedy’s action.
Do not use camphor or mint. Avoid ointment or products which contain camphor or mint. E.g. vicks, mint tea etc.
Do not apply external medication/ointment.
Do not go to the dentist too frequently during treatment.
